A corneal transplant(keratoplasty) is a surgical procedure to replace part of your cornea with corneal tissue from a donor.
Cornea is the transparent , dome shaped surface of your eye.
Corneal transplantation is a surgical procedure where damaged or diseased cornea is replaced by donated corneal tissue.
When the entire cornea is replaced it is known as penetrating keratoplasty and when only part of the cornea is replaced it is known as lamellar keratoplasty.
Some of the common are Keratoconus, bullous keratopathy, corneal scarring, keratitis, corneal dystrophy.
Similar to any other intraocular surgery but additionally include graft rejection, failure.
Prognosis for visual restoration and maintainance of ocular health with corneal transplants is generally very good.In cases of rejection or transplant failure , the surgery can generally be repeated.
